Bucs cut ties with Doug Martin and Chris Baker
The Buccaneers cut ties with former all-pro Doug Martin on Tuesday along with DL Chris Baker. With the Moves, the Bucs shaved 10 million off the salary cap and are now between 70-75 million dollars under the cap.
Martin’s best seasons were his rookie seasons in 2012 and in 2015 when he ran for over 1400 yards in each season. The last two season have been disappointing for Martin who was hampered by injuries and off the field issues. Martin ran for 406 yards this past season and averaged 2.9 YPC these last two seasons.
With Charles Sims a free agent, Jacquizz Rodgers and Peyton Barber are the two backs on the roster. I think the Bucs will put in a good effort to sign Sims, but he may want a change of scenery.
Chris Baker lasted one year in Tampa and had one of the least productive years so far in his career. Baker had 24 tackles and registered just half a sack. With Clinton McDonald, Sealver Siliga, and Will Clarke UFA’s, the DL will look a lot different in 2018 under new DL coach Brenston Buckner.
