Defense ahead of offense so far in training camp.
The defense continues to impress and cause havoc for the offense as training camp continues.
The DL with McCoy, Pierre-Paul, Curry, and Allen are applying lots of pressure and at times the OL seems unable to stop the onslaught.
That is not to say the offense has not had it‘s moments. Saturday at practice Ryan Fitzpatrick hit Chris Godwin in stride for what would have been a long TD. Jameis Winston, who has been taking more reps with the second and third string due to his upcoming three game suspension hit Bernard Reedy for a TD once the practice moved indoors.
MJ Stewart continues to impress as he had a pick in Saturday’s practice.
So far the defense is living up to the expectations at least on paper. Let’s keep in mind it is still training camp and we are barely one week into practice. We will get a better feel for what this defense will do Thursday against Miami in the first pre-season game. But the schemes are so generic and so vanilla that it is still hard to get a real feel for how good the defense will be.
The Bucs much maligned OL had three potential starters out at practice yesterday as Demar Dotson is still working his way back. Alex Cappa has been subbing foe Caleb Benonech at left guard and has been getting better every day. I think Cappa will be starting at LG at some point in the season.
He still has a lot to learn, but is getting up to speed very quickly.
At LB, Davonte Bond and Riley Bullough are battling for what mat be the final LB spot. Kwon Alexander, Lavonte David, and Kendall Beckwith are the starters, with Adarius Taylor taking the fourth LB spot. Jack Cichy the rookie from Wisconsin, and Cameron Lynch are also trying to one of those final spots. With Beckwith possibly out till after game one of the regular season, that will open up two roster spots.
Once the dust has settled, look for Bond and Lynch to get the spots. I would favor Bond if only one spot is available.
—Earlier this week the Sporting News came out with their pre-season prediction won-loss records for every team for the season and the Buccaneers did not fare well.
The SN thinks the Bucs will go 1-15. I’m not going to even give any credibility to the author of this prediction, but he obviously knows nothing about the NFL and probably should be reviewing fashion for the E network.
To put a prediction out that the Bucs will go 1-15 shows the amount of ignorance of this writers football knowledge. This person obviously is not aware of the strong off-season the Bucs had and did not pay attention to their strong draft.
-The Bucs have signed Jason Licht to a one year contract extension. Ownership is obviously impressed by the strong FA signings by Licht and the excellent draft. Licht is now signed through the 2019 season.
However are all measured by our wins and losses in sports, and Licht’s record as GM is 22-42. Hopefully this is the year thinks start to turn for the Bucs and Jason Licht.
