It’s the same old same old in Bucs loss to the Giants
I wish there was something else I could say about these games that the Bucs keep losing the same way. But there is nothing new.
Against the Giants this afternoon it was like watching the movie Groundhog Day because you know you’ve seen this movie before. It is not pretty and doesn’t end well for the Bucs.
Turnovers are killing this team. The Bucs committed four this afternoon, three by Ryan Fitzpatrick before he was benched and replaced by Jameis Winston. The Bucs are now -23 in turnover differential on the season.
This should not be surprising if you’ve watched the career of Fitzpatrick, as this has been his history. He comes off the bench, provides a spark for a few games and then the turnover machine kicks in and Fitzpatrick starts giving the football away.
Hopefully this going back and forth every other game between Fitzpatrick and Winston is over and we should see Winston play out the string of games the rest of the season.
Winston played well today in bringing the team back from a 24-7 deficit and had the Bucs in position to possibly win the game before throwing his only pick late in the game. Winston had 2 TD’s with 1 pick today.
The Bucs are 3-7. Only Dirk Koetter and the Bucs fans living on planet delusional would even think the Bucs can win 6 games in a row and finish 9-7.
Koetter‘s goose is cooked. There is nothing he can really do at this point to save his job. Playing Fitzpatrick won’t help so why not go with Winston and let the organization make an honest evaluation as wether he can be the Bucs QB of the future.
A couple of bright spots from the 38-35 loss to the New York Giants. Peyton Barber had a career day running the ball as he ran for 106 yards and a TD. This was also the best running attack the Bucs have put together this season.
Jason Pierre Paul continues to be the best defensive player on this team and registered 1.5 sacks giving him 9.5 sacks on the season and he is now poised to become the first Bucs defensive player to register double digit sacks since Simeon Rice in 2005.
The DL did have 4 sacks on the day against the Giants woeful OL, but overall the defense had no answer for Saquon Barkley and Odell Beckham.
While we are talking positives from the game how about K Cairo Santos who was a perfect 5/5 on EXP‘s today. Santos did not attempt a FG.
At this point this is a tale of two Buccancers team. There is the offensive side of the ball, where this team is setting all kinds of records every game. This is the best offense in Bucs history. Unfortunately this defense is also going to go down in the record books as the worst defense in the history of Tampa Bay, but also one of the worst in the history of the NFL as they are on pace to give up 527 points.
Never in the history of the NFL has a team had such a prolific offense and at the same time such a poor defense. I understand that Alexander, David, Conte, Hargreaves, and Vinny Curry, all starters were out today and many have been out most of the season.
But you would think we would start seeing some improvement at some point defensively. All we are seeing is the same old same old and that is the part that frustrates so many Buccaneer fans.
The Buccaneers may not win another game this season, and that would be a travesty.
