What aren't the NFL and Josh Gordon telling us?

Does anyone else find it interesting that one week before Josh Gordon is a free man ready to terrorize NFL defenses he checks into rehab? For those of you who read the headline and thought "Good for him" let's dive in deeper to understand why he chose this decision now. Why not a couple weeks or months ago? Why were the NFL and Josh Gordon's statements so synchronized? Let's dive in, together.

Josh Gordon is only 25 years old. In 2013 he was arguably the best WR in the National Football League with 87 receptions, 1,646 yards, and 9 touchdown catches. Gordon's last game in the NFL was in 2014, nearly 2 years ago. That is a lifetime in NFL as the average NFL player's career lasts right over 2 years. He began the 2016 season with a 4 game suspension due to drug issues. Gordon has been sitting...waiting....itching to get back to the game he loves so much. And now, the week before he has a chance to come back and play he decides to check in to rehab? Don't get me wrong, if he needs help, by all means go get it. But it raises the question as to why he chose now to enter rehab?

My guess? The NFL gave him a drug test and something went wrong. Either it was too diluted or they found something. The NFL comes to Gordon and says, "Hey something is wrong with your test and before we make it public you have a decision to make. You either enter rehab now until you get clean and play when you get back, or we will suspend you indefinitely from the National Football League." Sure this situation is strictly hypothetical. But what if it isn't?

Get those wheels moving people and stop being so naive. It is a win win for both parties. The once dominant WR doesn't get banned from the league and the NFL saves face and looks like a hero. If he was going to go to rehab wouldn't he have done it earlier? I hope this is strictly a personal decision and he desires to get clean. To me, something just doesn't add up. Thoughts?
