Leafs Suffer Heartbreaking Loss To The Habs

Auston Matthews scored his fourth and fifth goal of the season last night.

The Toronto Maple Leafs suffered a heartbreaking 6-5 shoot out loss to the Montreal Canadiens last night after going ahead 4-1.

"It's disappointing because you were up," said Leaf's head coach, Mike Babcock after the game. "I didn't think we skated good all night."

Max Domi put the Canadiens up 1-0 just 1:08 into the game.

Auston Matthews tied the game at 5:57.

Alexander Kerfoot put the Leafs ahead 2-1 at 15:54.

Trevor Moore scored the lone goal of the second period and put the Leafs ahead 3-1.

At 5:16 of the third period, William Nylander scored Toronto's fourth goal on the power play.

After Nylander's goal, Toronto fell apart.

11 seconds later, Jonathan Drouin scored.

Just 1:02 later, Brendan Gallagher closed the gap to 4-3.

At 13:02, Montreal was awarded a penalty shot when Kasperi Kapanen threw his broken stick at Jeff Petry.

Petry scored on the penalty shot and tied the game 4-4.

Montreal went ahead 5-4 with a goal by Phillip Danault at 15:20.

Matthews tied the game at 18:45.

Nothing was solved in overtime.

The game went to a shoot out.

Montreal won the shoot out.

Gallagher finished the night with three points.

Montreal's Shea Weber had two assists.

Canadien's goalie, Carey Price, stopped 37 shots last night.

Kerfoot also had three points.

Toronto's goalie, Michael Hutchinson, stopped 42 shots last night.

"I felt bad for Hutch because to me, in the end, we hung him out to dry," said Babcock.

Toronto faces the Stanley Cup Champions, the St. Louis Blues, tomorrow night.
