Panthers OT Michael Oher Could Retire Soon

Carolina Panthers OT Michael Oher came to the Panthers during the 2015 offseason after QB Cam Newton reached out to him telling Oher he needed him in Charlotte and a member of the Panthers. Oher has played well in his little over a season with the Panthers, however Oher has now been out of action, in the concussion protocol for two months now, which has to cause a major concerns about Oher's personal long-term health. Oher sustained the concussion in a Week 3 game against the Minnesota Vikings, it is now Week 11 (the Panthers have actually said the is it possible that it happened even earlier than Week 3, possibly in Week 2 against the San Fransisco 49ers). Also concerning for Oher and the Panthers is that it's apparently bad enough that Oher had to attend a Pittsburg clinic the specializes in treatment on concussions, which leads you to believe this is pretty bad.

Oher was originally thought the be on track to return after the team's bye week for the Week 9 game on October 30th against the Arizona Cardinals, however that did not happen.

This isn't the first time Oher has had a concussion either, which is even more bad news. The fact that it's not his first concussion and the fact that Oher still hasn't been able to return should be very concerning for Oher and the Panthers and their fans.

In this age of science and how much we have learned about concussions and the impact they can have on your long-term health, it wouldn't surprise me at all to see Oher retire, or at least strongly consider the possibility. Let's face, we have already seen some players, some very young players in the prime of their career, decide to retire after sustaining a concussion and know the possible consequences of sustaining more. I am not saying Oher is going to retire, but for the overall well-being of Oher and his health, Panther fans shouldn't be shocked if this did in fact occur.
