5 Hot Takes for the 17-18 Season

Finally, it's opening day for the NBA. Here are my 5 Hot Takes for the upcoming NBA season.

1. Giannis Antetokounmpo wins MVP.

I know a lot of people are leaning on LeBron winning. And that is a good pick, and probably the smartest pick, but lets not forget about The Greek Freak. Giannis is one weapon away from a perennial MVP winner; the 3 point shot. If he even goes 33% from 3 this year, he should win MVP. Also, what happens if and when the Bucks are the 2nd or 3rd seed in the playoffs and win 52 games, people are going to praise Giannis. That's why I believe he will win MVP.

2. The Knicks fire Hornacek.

Look, we all know that the Knicks are the most dysfunctional organization of all time. And we also know the Knicks have one of the most passionate fan bases. Add that together, and you get the finished product of a Hornacek firing. I like Jeff, I think he is a decent NBA coach, and I believe he will get another chance. But he is coaching one of the worst teams in the league and the whole city of New York wants playoff basketball, and they want it now. And for some reason, the Knicks will think the fastest way to do that is firing Hornacek.

3. The Pelicans trade away Davis, and/or Cousins, and begin the tank.

I mean, it's inevitable. The Pelicans are a disaster right now. At some point, Davis is going to want to play for a winner, same with Cousins. The Pelicans are nowhere close to being that. The best thing for New Orleans to trade them away ASAP and try to get a top 3 pick. There will be a whole lot of teams trying to get Davis, and some trying to get get Cousins. My guess is that Davis gets traded to Boston because of the abundance of picks they own. I don't know about Cousins, I think he'll be traded to Washington, but Cleveland is a good bet too. Other teams to watch out for a Cousins trade are the Hornets, Knicks, Mavericks, Lakers and the Rockets.

4. The Spurs win 60 games.

I don't know if this should even be a hot take. Kawhi Leonard led the team to 61 wins last year with the same exact team they have this year plus Rudy Gay, Lauvergne, and Hillard on a 2-way contract. I like the Spurs to finish 2nd in the West but they won't make the WCF, because the Thunder will surge in the playoffs.

5. Seattle basketball will become more of a reality again.

Seattle is making improvements and trying to build a new arena to bring another Seattle team back. And I believe it will happen very soon. Teams like the Grizzlies and Magic are likely to move but the most realistic team would be the Pelicans. The Pelicans play in an awful arena, the market isn't big for a team there, and it's really a Saints football city. The smartest thing to do is to move the team to a city where players will want to play, with a shit ton of basketball history. And it would be easy, just swap Seattle with OKC in their respective divisions. And boom, Seattle is back.
