Cespedes, deGrom Help Mets To Tie Tigers

The Mets tied the Detroit Tigers today 5-5. Starting pitcher Jacob deGrom and power hitting left fielder Yoenis Cespedes lead the way. At one point, the Mets lead 4-0 in this one. After giving back the lead and trailing 5-4 in the 9th, the Mets managed to salvage the tie with a run in the 9th.

Jacob deGrom had a good start. deGrom went 4 innings and struck out 4 batters without allowing a run. Jacob's day only saw him allow 2 hits in his 2nd start of spring. deGrom has not yet given up a run in spring.

Meanwhile, Yoenis Cespedes looks like he's already in mid-season form. Cespedes went 2-3 with a 2-run home run. Cespedes is batting .526 with 3 home runs and 4 RBIs so far.

The Mets got another home run today from center fielder Champ Stuart. Stuart went 1-3 with a 2-run home run as well. Stuart is batting .211 this spring while getting his first home run and adding his RBI total to 4. 

Asdrubal Cabrera went 2-3 today as well with a run scored. Cabrera is batting .278 for spring. Starting catcher Tomas Nido went 1-3 with a run scored, upping his average to .313. John Mora drove home Kevin Kaczmarski in the 9th to get the game tied. Mora is batting .500 while getting his first RBI of spring with his triple today. Kaczmarski is batting .667.

While things looked good for the line-up and the starting pitching, the bullpen did not fair so well. Josh Edgin came in for 2/3 of an inning and got both batters out including striking out one. Edgin's ERA fell to 5.79. Ben Rowan got the final out of the 5th despite giving up a hit.

Rafael Montero then pitched an inning and gave up his first run of spring. Montero gave up one run and 2 hits, but he did strike out 2 batters as well. Montero's ERA is at 2.25. Erik Goeddel then came on for an inning in the 7th. Goeddel gave up 2 runs including a solo home run to Tigers first baseman Dominic Ficociello. Goeddel's line was 1 inning, 2 runs, 3 hits, a strike out and a home run. Goeddel raised his ERA to 6.00 despite getting his 2nd hold.

Chasen Bradford pitched the 8th and gave up 1 run, 3 hits but struck out 2.  Bradford's ERA is now at 4.50 with the blown save. Paul Sewald gave up a home run in the 9th despite striking out a batter. Sewald's ERA is at 1.80. 

Tomorrow, Zack Wheeler makes his first start since the spring 2015 against the Atlanta Braves at Disney World. That game starts at 1:05pm. Meanwhile back at First Data Field in Port St. Lucie, Tebowmania is in full stride as Tim Tebow makes his second start of the spring. That game starts at 1:10pm and is against the Houston Astros.
