End of the season Player Evaluation: Kyrie Irving
Now that the 2018-2019 season is over every week I will evaluate one player and give them a grade.
Kyrie Irving C+
Kyrie Irving had a terrific year in the regular season. Kyrie average 23.8 ppg, 6.9 apg (career high). He was efficient when he shot the ball .487 and .310 3-pt. He put up great numbers, but as a first-time leader he utterly failed. When the team had a terrible stretch, he started to point fingers. He also had a hard time trying to teach them.
In the playoffs Kyrie average 21.3 ppg, 7.0 apg. He also self-imploded in the playoffs when he had terrible shooting stretch versus the Bucks in the second round of the playoffs. From Game 2 to Game 5 he went 25-for-104 (.240), and from the three-point range he went 5-for-27 (.185). After the lost in game 4, Kyrie told the media he should of shot the ball 30 times. Kyrie was forcing up shots during the series, and he stop looking for his teammates. He tried to play hero ball and do everything by himself, and he failed.
At the end of the day Kyrie Irving made it all about himself. He alienated himself from his teammates and he blame them when things went bad. The only reason why I dont give him a much lower grade because of his numbers he put up during the regular season and in the playoffs. If the Celtics want to bring him back Kyrie has to change his attitude for the better of the team.
