Pitching dominated in Wednesday night’s game between the Cincinnati Reds and Baltimore Orioles, but it was the Orioles who came out victorious 2-0 to even the series at one game a piece in a pitcher’s duel at Great American Ballpark.

Baltimore got on the board early in the second inning with an RBI single from Jonathan Schoop and then added on a run in the fifth inning with a sacrifice fly from Manny Machado, but that would be all the offense that would be scored in the contest.

Cincinnati’s starting pitcher, Amir Garrett (2-1), was sensational as he pitched seven innings allowing two runs on seven hits while striking out 12 and walking only one, however, he suffered his first loss of the season and of his career. With 12 strikeouts, Garrett has tied the modern club record for rookie lefthanders (12k, Dennys Reyes, 8/20/1998 at Pit).

Orioles’ starter Ubaldo Jimenez (1-0) was even better as he threw 7.2 innings allowing only two hits while striking out three and walking four as he earned his first win of the year. Brad Brach threw a perfect ninth inning to earn his first save of the year.

Thursday night’s game will be the rubber match of the series as the Reds will send out Scott Feldman (1-2, 2.87) while Baltimore will counter with Wade Miley (1-0, 2.45) as that contest will begin at 7:10 ET.
