Reds Lose Rubber Match With Colorado 6-4

Despite a late rally, the Reds (20-23) could not get to even ground and lost 6-4 including the series 2-1 with the Colorado Rockies (28-17) on Sunday afternoon at Great American Ballpark.

The Reds got on the board first with an RBI ground out by Joey Votto, but would not score until the sixth inning when Votto connected on a two-run home run and a solo shot from Scott Schebler. That three run sixth inning cut their deficit from 6-1 to 6-4.

The Rockies on the other hand showed why they are one of the best slugging teams in the country. In the third inning, they finally got on to the board with a game tying RBI sacrifice fly from Charlie Blackmon and took the lead for good with an RBI single from DJ LeMahieu. In the fourth inning, the Rockies tacked on another run with a solo home run from Carlos Gonzalez, two solo home runs from Kyle Freeland and LeMahieu in the fifth, and another from Pat Valaika in the sixth.

Reds starter Bronson Arroyo (3-4) pitched 5.1 innings allowing six runs on nine hits while striking out four and walking two as he suffered the loss. Rockies starter Kyle Freeman (5-2) pitched 5.2 innings allowing four runs (three earned) on five hits while striking out three and walking one earning the win. Greg Holland picked up the save, his 19th.

Cincinnati will host the first two games of a home and home series with their Interstate rival, Cleveland Indians, with game one going at 7:10 PM Monday night. Scott Feldman (2-4, 4.29) will go for the Reds while the Indians will counter with Josh Tomlin (2-5, 6.86).

MVP of the series: Scott Schebler is the MVP of the series as he went 5-for-9 with two home runs and five RBIs.
