Check out the artistic talent oozing outa Todd County high school

By Rich Winter

Alright, so the other night I stopped by the Todd County School Board meeting after a very long Monday. I'm tired and in reality, I'm in no mood for any delays or 'extra' from the sometimes tedious board meetings (no offense, I'm just not much for meetings). And then Mr. Hammer, who was ad-libbing his butt off like usual, threw up a video of a young artist from Todd County, a junior, and a video he and his brother created.

From the Hammer dialogue box...'d like to share a video created by 2 of our students at TCHS. One brother records and edits with the video while the other draws free hand from mental images. Nothing traced or drawn from a picture. These twins are juniors and they are freakin' talented. Enjoy and share. Gotta be an art school that would love to have this talent at their school!

I always love something that is so awesome it shakes me back to reality and makes me forget about being tired and grumpy....Watched that video and It just blew my mind. How can anyone have that kind of talent in their body? I struggle with stick figures and some kid at Todd County is ripping off something like that.

One thing Hammer mentioned in his conversation was that at the state art contest a year ago, the twin who drew this photo didn't win because his piece was too small, but everyone, EVERYONE looked at his work and told him his piece was easily the best there.

With the Lakota Nation Invitational breathing down our necks....(So fired up), I urge everyone to budget some time so they can check out the art displays at LNI. I usually go in, take pictures of Todd County and St. Francis kids for my work at the Todd County Tribune and then I go put my camera down, put my pen down, take a few deep breaths, clear my mind and dive in.

It's one of my favorite times of LNI.

I really like the interpretive pieces and I try to get inside the mind of someone whose mind is so much cooler than mine. Love trying to imagine what someone is thinking and just drink in a talent that I admire so much.

I know the Panic Button is all about sports, but, don't think for a second I don't understand there are people that are talented in different ways. If you have a feature idea for a young person that is talented in something besides hoops, give me a buzz on Facebook or send me an email to [email protected] and let's see if we can't get some publicity for those who have the gift.
