Welcome back Atlas Willuweit, we've been waiting for you....

Atlas Willuweit, far right, claimed the 120 pound championship at the Kimball/White Lake tournament

By Rich Winter

Checking out wrestling tournament results from yesterday and got stuck on that Kimball/White Lake tournament. Philip looks tough, and while it's early, the Winner Warriors look like a team that will be battling for a high place at the state B tournament in February.

Three champions from Winner Areas: Tre Doren at 285, Kayleb Brozik at 170 and Winner 120 pounder, Atlas Willuweit (Winner). The junior tore up the Kimball/White Lake tournament and defeated Hunter Pranger of  (Mount Vernon/Plankinton/Corsica) 10-3 in the finals.

Nice!

Nice to see this kid back on the mat and dominating after a tough 2015 season. So, as the story was told to me, Willuweit transfered from, I believe, Gregory last season. Willuweit had injured a knee early in the season while with Gregory and after sitting out and getting semi healthy, the then sophomore kept on grappling despite the pain in his knee.

At the Region tournament a year ago, Willuweit fought his way to the state tournament by earning a top-4 finish. But the knee, that had gotten worse later in the season, was a no-go at the state meet as Willuweit had to wait for the 2016 season.

A trip to the doctor after wrestling season showed a torn ACL!

Okay, so the kid wrestled like 25 matches with a torn ACL...Now that's TUFF...Panic Button approved for sure!

Older brother, Achilles...(Really...that's awesome), finished 5th at 182 at the Kimball/White Lake tournament.

Winner has some work to do in the middle-weights but Kaden Keiser, third at 106, Wyatt Turnquist, 2nd at 113 and Avery Gilchest, 2nd at 160 and Jayden Schroder 3rd in a sick 195 lb. bracket, make this team an interesting group to watch get better.

Some big dogs at the Rapid City Invite this week....Go get em!
