Panthers DT Kawaan Short Bet on Himself, And is Losing

Carolina Panthers defensive tackle Kawaan "KK" Short was offered a long-term contract this offseason by the Panthers after posting monster numbers in 2015 in leading the Panthers to one of the best defensive units in the league. However instead of taking the long-term deal, Short decided to bet on himself and play out the final season of his rookie contract.

Short bet on himself, hoping his numbers again this year would show he was worth more than the Panthers offered him during this past offseason. However so far, Short is losing that bet, falling way short of expectations of his own, and the teams.

After posting a record 11 sacks, 55 tackles, 3 forced fumbles, 2 fumbles recovered and 4 passed defenses, Short has greatly disappointed through five games in 2016, largely being non-existent. Short has posted just a single sack to go along with 18 tackles, and zeros in every other category.

So unlike Josh Norman did a year ago, who bet on himself and won with a monster year in a contract season, which earned him a huge payday with the Washington Redskins, Short has bet on himself, and so far is badly losing in his contract season.
