BREAKING: Nuggets Fire Coach Brian Shaw

Chris Humphreys-USA TODAY Sports

Breaking news out of Denver. The Nuggets have fired Head Coach Brian Shaw.

This news doesn't come as much of a shocker, considering their record, but also the headlines they have made in the last week.

With reports coming out over the weekend that during Friday's game, the Nuggets broke out of their huddle chanting "1-2-3...Six Weeks!" as in 6 weeks left until they get to vacation and their off-season. The Nuggets currently sit at 20-39 and far below expectations. Not many people expected them to be a contender, but I think a lot of people expected this team to at least be in the fight for a playoff spot. There were rumblings, distraction and controversy early into Shaw's tenure as head coach, stemming from his "feud" with veteran guard Andre Miller, which ultimately led to Miller getting traded to Washington, to the new distraction of their 6 weeks controversy.

Shaw was supposed to be one of the up and coming coaches in the league during his time as an assistant for the Lakers, but his time as head coach has been extremely disappointing. With him being ultimately unable to control his players and being unable to connect with the younger generation, it's likely that Shaw won't get another head coaching gig for a long time.

UPDATE: Denver Nuggets will appoint assistant coach Melvin Hunt as interim head coach for the remainder of the regular season
