Logan Davidson - SS - Sophomore - Clemson (2019 Eligible)

A 6'3 185 lb. shortstop, Davidson broke out as a freshman, hitting .286/.388/.473 with 12 home runs and a 0.79 walk-to-strikeout ratio in 293 plate appearances with the Tigers. He has followed that up with a very impressive 2018 campaign, improving in virtually every area both offensively and defensively. Through 272 plate appearances as a sophomore, Davidson is hitting .305/.419/.580 with 15 home runs and a 0.66 walk-to-strikeout ratio.

A switch hitter, Davidson has legitimate raw power from both sides of the plate that shows in games as well - as shown by his 27 home runs in 467 career at-bats. He looks a little more natural and more loose from the left-side, but overall has a good feel for the barrel and realistically projects to have an above average hit tool from both sides of the plate. Davidson also has above average to plus speed, and has swiped 20 (out of 26) bags in his Clemson career.

If you're looking for holes in his offensive profile, Davidson does strike out at a relatively high clip (19.64 SO% in his collegiate career), though it looks like this has more to do with his approach rather than skill. He also struggled on the Cape last summer, hitting .210/.329/.266 with 1 home run and a 0.54 walk-to-strikeout ratio in 146 plate appearances with Falmouth.

Defensively, Davidson is a strong defender at short, and has the arm to stick at the position. He struggled to make routine throws at times throughout his freshman season, but has been able to eliminate those mistakes for the most part as a sophomore.

All in all, it's hard not to like Davidson. He is a proven college performer with three to four tools that project to be above average at the next level, and has room to add strength to his frame and fill out physically. He as all the makings of a future big league shortstop, and a good showing in the Cape Cod League this summer should cement his status as one of the top college prospects for the 2019 draft.
