If you haven’t already heard, Ray Allen has officially retired from the NBA. He made the announcement on Tuesday via The Players’ Tribune in a letter to his 13-year-old self.

“Do you want to fit in, or do you want to embark on the lonely pursuit of greatness?

I write this to you today as a 41-year-old man who is retiring from the game. I write to you as a man who is completely at peace with himself.

The hell you experience when you get off that bus will be temporary. Basketball will take you far away from that school yard. You will become far more than just a basketball player. You’ll get to act in movies. You’ll travel the world. You will become a husband, and the father of five amazing children.”

The Chicago Bulls’ Rajon Rondo, who played with Allen for five seasons in Boston and both won the 2008 NBA championship together, was asked how he felt about his former teammate’s retirement. Rondo, understandably, said "I thought he'd been retired. But he had a hell of a career."

See, Allen hasn’t played a single NBA game since the end of the 2014 season. He was pretty much retired, but just never officially announced it. So, don’t be surprised when others have the same response as Rondo’s.

Allen holds career averages of 18.9 points and 4.1 rebounds. Additionally, he is currently the NBA’s leader of most three pointers made with 2,973.

Let’s reminisce and check out one of Allen’s best games:
