DeMar DeRozan has been playing phenomenally thus far. He is currently averaging 36.3 points per game, and is only trailing behind Russell Westbrook on the points per game ladder. His team, the Toronto Raptors, is also playing well too, as they notched their third win of the season on Wednesday, when they defeated the Washington Wizards 113-103.

After the game, DeRozan was asked by the media why he is playing so well. He said that he remains a student of the game, and just works his butt off in the offseason.

“I’m just a student of the game. I work extremely hard in the summer time. I just try to put everything together, be a student of the game, while working. Always feeling like I’m new to the game, so I can soak up as much as possible, and I try to release it when I get out there on the court.”

Although DeRozan did great this game (made 60.9 of his shots for 40 points), he had a lot help in this win. According to the two-time All-Star, it was the Raptors’ bench that pushed the team to victory. He said that the second unit “played great” and their energy reignited the team’s momentum, giving them an extra “oomph” to get past the Wizards.

This is true. Coming off the bench, Patrick Patterson and Terrence Ross handled the offense as they combined for 25 points, while Corey Joseph and Ross took care of the defense with a combined 5 steals.

Kyle Lowry also did his thing as he tallied 18 points, 4 steals, and 2 assists.

The Raptors’ next game will be on Friday, and they will host the Miami Heat.
