Alabama completes 17th perfect regular season since 1925

Alabama just completed their 17th undefeated and untied season since 1925. The Crimson Tide continues to add to their storied history with last Saturdays win over Auburn. Today we take a look back on history and focus back in the past on Alabama's 17 perfect regular seasons since Alabama's historical 1925 season. Alabama had one undefeated season before 1925. That is when Alabama went 1-0 during 1897 in a season in which they played just one game so it is hard for me to justify that as an undefeated season. Regular season results provided by Wikipedia.

1925 - Alabama's arrival on the big stage in college football came in 1925 with a win over Washington in the Rose Bowl in a game that is known "as the game that changed the south". Alabama was voted national champions by many publications at the conclusion of the year and was the first for the Crimson Tide.

1926 - Alabama followed up with a second consecutive undefeated season in 1926 that got Alabama another invitation to the Rose Bowl. Alabama would tie Stanford 7-7 in the Rose Bowl and was recognized by many publications as national champions giving Alabama their second national title.

1930 - Alabama would go undefeated again in the regular season in 1930 capped off with a trip to the Rose Bowl where they defeated Washington State 24-0 and was recognized by many publications as national champions giving Alabama their third national title. 

1934 - It only took four more years for Alabama to have another undefeated regular season. The Crimson Tide would take another trip to the Rose Bowl where they defeated Stanford 29-13 and was voted national champs by many publications giving Alabama their fourth national title. 

1945 - It would be eleven years before Alabama would have another undefeated regular season. Alabama would make one final trip to the Rose Bowl before it was aligned to only host the Pacific Coast champions against the Big Ten champions. Alabama would go on to defeat USC in the Rose Bowl 34-14 to complete an undefeated season. Alabama would not be recognized as national champions as undefeated Army basically swept all the polls as World War II was coming to an end.

1961 - It would take sixteen years before Alabama would have another undefeated regular season. It was Bear Bryant's fourth year at Alabama as he guided the Crimson Tide to a victory over Arkansas in the Sugar Bowl and his first national title as head coach of Alabama.

1964 - It would only take three years before Alabama would have another undefeated season. Alabama would lose to Texas in the Orange Bowl but was already voted national champions by the AP Poll as they voted at the conclusion of the season. This would be Bear Bryant's second national title at Alabama. 

1966 - It only took two more seasons before Bear Bryant would lead Alabama to another undefeated regular season. The Crimson Tide would go on to defeat Nebraska in the Sugar Bowl but was left out of the national title when the polls fell in love with Michigan State and Notre Dame. 

1971 - Five years later Alabama would enjoy another undefeated regular season when coach Bear Bryant switched to the wishbone offense during the fall of 1971. Alabama would be denied a national title when the Nebraska Cornhuskers defeated Alabama 38-6 in the Orange Bowl. 

1973 - It would only take Alabama only two more years to have another undefeated regular season. Alabama was awarded the UPI national championship at the conclusion of the regular season but a 24-23 loss to Notre Dame in the Sugar Bowl denied Alabama the unanimous national title.

1974 - Alabama would go undefeated in the regular season for the second year in a row. By the 1974 season both the AP Polls and the UPI Polls would vote for national champion after the bowl games. Notre Dame would spoil Alabama's bid for a national title with a 13-11 victory over Alabama in the Orange Bowl.

1979 - Five years later Alabama would enjoy another undefeated regular season. Alabama would beat Arkansas 24-9 in the Sugar Bowl to cap off the season with Bear Bryant's sixth national title at Alabama.

1992 - It would be thirteen years before Alabama would experience another undefeated regular season under coach Gene Stallings. Alabama would destroy mighty Miami in the Sugar Bowl 34-13 to win the Crimson Tide's 12th national championship.

1994 - Alabama would go undefeated in the regular season again under coach Stallings two years later in 1994. This time though Alabama would be defeated by Florida 24-23 in the SEC championship game to be denied a shot at another national championship. 

2008 - Alabama had to wait fourteen years before enjoying another undefeated regular season. Nick Saban in his second year led Alabama to a 12-0 regular season record. But Tim Tebow and the Florida Gators would end Alabama's title hopes defeating Alabama 30-21. An uninspired Alabama would lose to Utah in the Sugar Bowl.

2009 - For the second year in a row Alabama would go undefeated during the regular season. This time though Alabama would leave Tim Tebow in tears as Alabama defeated Florida in the SEC championship game 32-13 in route to Alabama's 13th national championship.

2016 - It is hard to believe that it has been seven years since Alabama last went undefeated during the regular season as the Tide won national titles in 2011, 2012 and 2015 during the last seven years. Alabama just defeated Auburn 30-12 to record their 17th undefeated season since 1925.
