The End of an Era

This post comes with a heavy heart and a clear mind. What started on October 19, 2017 as a hope and a dream has come to a conclusion. As of April 8, 2019, I am officially retiring from sports gambling. I’ve come to the point in my life where I have realized that there is more to watching sports than cheering for a player to make/miss a late free throw or yelling at a replay of a touchdown that could make or break a money line parlay. Sports should be enjoyed with family and friends in serenity and peace of mind, not alone in a room about to throw a remote at the TV. Do I actually believe the last two sentences I’ve just written… absolutely not. I’ve been hired to a new job that limits the number of sports betting I can do. It’s not that I don’t have time to quickly put down a $5 bet, it’s the strictness with which my new employer regards sports gambling. Pete Rose is the perfect ambassador for how strict Major League Baseball is with gambling on games while employed by an organization. I’ll still be paying attention to spreads, over/unders, future props, and other sports gambling related material. While this is a retirement from the physical act of placing a bet, my time caring about sports gambling has not come to an end. With the school year coming to a close, I’ll have a little more time to write about the material I actually care about as opposed to a case study on intestate succession or why direct marketing is dying. Attached below are the remaining future bets I placed before I was notified I had received the job. Who knows what the future holds? Brett Favre came out of retirement twice. In the words of Kevin Garnett, “Anything is possible!” I could go on and on with cliches but I won’t bore you or myself with typing them out.
