St. Louis Must Win at Busch in Midst of Playoff Push

The St. Louis Cardinals have looked like the best team in the National League Wild Card race over the past four days, with San Francisco’s bullpen continuing to struggle, and the Mets inability to beat the Atlanta Braves at home, but they are far from a post season lock. They will certainly have to reverse their trend of losing at home, where they are an abysmal 33-41 this season. The Cards do have one more stop on this road trip, though, which will be Wrigley field, where they can hopefully build some momentum, moving into the last week of games. They are 5-2 at Wrigley this season.

Those final seven games will be played at home, for the Redbirds, against the Cincinnati Reds and the Pittsburg Pirates. Two teams that are playing sub .500 baseball, and will definitely be looking to play spoiler. Any other year this would be an ideal situation for the Cards, but they have yet to play consistently well at home, where they have already secured a losing record for the regular season. However, there will almost definitely be a playoff-like atmosphere at Busch for the final stretch, something the St. Louis players will surely feed off.

Busch Stadium rivals all other stadiums, in atmosphere during meaningful September games..

Though there are still very high hopes of making the post season, the Cardinals have a testing road ahead. They have looked like a team built for the playoffs at time this year, and that is exactly what they will need to look like, as these last couple weeks unravel. The level of intrigue and entertainment will be high, and hopefully we will see the Cardinals come out on top of the Wild Card standings, going on to play October baseball for the sixth straight year.
