Realistic mindset is key to recruiting

Let's face it. Most high school athletes dream of playing their favorite sport in college. I can speak from experience. I always wanted to play baseball when I was in high school. So many athletes would like to play a sports at the next level, but often time are not realistic with themselves.

The truth is is that if a player is good enough to start on his/her high school team then all it takes for that athlete to play in college is hard work, dedication and a realistic mindset. If they player is truly serious about it then the dedication and hard work comes easy, but what many athletes miss is being real with themselves.

If the player does not have the ability to play football at Alabama or basketball at Kentucky, then that player knows it. And even if they would love to play at one of those schools it comes down to the desire to just play in college. If that desire is big enough then it should not matter where they end up.

All they have to do is be realistic about their goals and strive to reach them. It comes down to picking a school that they could realistically play at, finding what major fits them and if they like the area. If all are check marks, then hey, that high schooler may very well find himself/herself playing in college.

It just takes that athlete or one person to sit down with them and discuss their goals and expectations.

And that is true for non-athletes as well. Go out there be realistic with yourself, have fun while you do it and make some friends while your at it.
