Recruiting and transfers: an unusual process
More and more student athletes are transferring from a four year school to a four year school, and The reason for that can be traced back to a players fit at the school choice coming out of high school. But even though more athletes are making a switch, does not mean that it is an easy process.
In most four-year school contracts for athletes it states that the student can not communicate with other schools about transferring without that permission of the school the student currently attends.
This protects the students mainly from other schools bombarding an athlete about coming to play for their university, but it also can keep the student from looking elsewhere without thinking it over with the athletic department.
If a student athlete wants to transfer they must first let their coach know and he can talk with athletics to further the process. Most coaches may try to keep the student under his/her wing at the school, but are supporting when a student wants to move on.
Once the coach and athlete have talked it over, they can talk with athletics and allow the student to contact other teams and open up conversations talks between the athlete and other schools.
This is the beginning of a long process for the athlete and more in this topic can be found later this week on my blog.
