Fan Free Agent Stress!

Oh Canada Day! For many it marks the celebration of this great nation and the wonders of the True North Strong and Free. We get to have beers with my Beer-Me Partner and there is an overall theme of relaxation. For teachers, we also have the added bonus of no work tomorrow. It is all good!

So why did I wake up at 2 in the morning and frantically check my phone?

The NBA free agency period starts today. I would compare NBA free agency to watching a snail race; there is a lot of effort and stuff going on, but there is not a lot of action. Every time there is a slight shift, my phone goes off a dozen times informing me.

As a Raptor's fan there are always three options:

1. We do nothing; I am not a fan of this one. Watching Chris Bosh leave for a never used trade exemption was heartbreaking. Constantly hearing about the same five teams in the running for the top free agents is also not cool.

2. We overpay; this one is not a lot better. Paying players too much for their talents is a common play for the Raps. We often add an extra year and if their motivation dwindles, they are on the books for too long; Montross and The Dream. Then we are forced to deal with several summers of number one until it all clears.

3. We get it right; this one is for you Kyle. Hopefully, a four year deal at $48 million will be enough to keep the little guy and he will give us the same production he gave us last year. I'd like to avoid another VC  or Antonio Davis decline.

Since I am a little distracted, I will keep this short. God knows we may lure Lewis away from Miami; please don't. What Vince is on the return? Stop. Why don't we have interest in TMac? He is a pitcher now? Good God let the signing period begin!

And for Kyle and Vasquez:
