Sick Thoughts on a Mundane Monday
Don’t worry, none of these thoughts are gross like three day old liver left out in the summer heat. Instead these are some of the ideas that has passed through my ailing head. I hate having a cold or a flu, or whatever it is that causes my breathing to be limited. But through it all, my mind does wander.
1. Thibodeau’s Bad Subs
After watching the Bulls barely go 1-1 against the bottom feeders of the East, I see serious flaws in Thib’s coaching style; specifically his rotation. (I am sure he is racing to his computer to get this valuable insight.) In a squeaker of a win against the 76ers and a loss to the Rhondoless Celtics, Tom managed to coach his team out of an advantage. Friday, he had the 76ers primed for a blowout when poor substitution patterns made the game close. On Saturday night, Mike Dunleavy was lights out in the first quarter; it was Tom who then iced him on the bench and it cost the Bulls a win. (He finished with just 13 after 9 in the first.)
2. Kelly’s Got Game
Canadian Kelly Olynyk looks like he should be wearing a robe and carrying a staff, until you see him ball. He does a lot of solid things on the court and may play a solid role in the Celtics rebuilding process. He does not look like much but he moves the ball well and hustles on both ends. Compared to some of the other options in the 2013 draft, the Toronto born but BC raised center could be a steal; even with the questionable dew.
3. Charles Can Eat
Barkley mocked the Lakers last week by stating he would not eat another meal until Kobe’s bunch had a W. Luckily for Sir Charles, the Lakeshow came to town last night and he got to chow down. Hopefully his hunger pangs will prevent him from saying anything else stupid for a while, but I doubt it.
4. Wilting Rose: The Ultimate NBA Catch 22
I don’t think this collection of Chicago Bulls has what it takes to win a chip even if Derek Rose is healthy. Unfortunately, I feel he plays a type of game his body cannot survive. With every attack of the rim, it seems like he is closer to another season ending injury or worse. Rose may be forced to change his game a la Grant Hill or he will spend most of his career on the IR. I just hope he has the right people advising him.
5. The December 15 Deadline is Approaching
I feel like this year will have some grade trade fodder once the December 15th moratorium on trading newly signed free agents is lifted. I wish my gut could elaborate more but it’s not sharing any more info than look for a big move.
*Raptor Watch*
Mark Stein had to bite the bullet and rank us number one in the Eastern Conference. If it wasn’t for the charity stripe against the Heat, we could be 7-0. Don’t get too excited, the schedule is favorable but we do get a lot of teams out of the way who maybe tough come mid-March. Presently, they are looking like a solid team who may even content for a top two seed. That said, I hope to wake up on Sunday 8-2 or better.
