What You Give Me: A Coach's Poem
I wrote this poem in 2007 for my girls’ basketball team in Toronto. I was reminded of it this week and believe it applies to any team I have ever coached.
What You Give Me
You give me motivation
to be a better teacher, coach and person
Knowing my efforts and actions might help to improve your lives.
You give me joy
All of your successful and happy stories
become mine and your smiles and laughs brighten my day.
You bring me faith
in a better tomorrow
knowing the future is in your very capable hands.
You bring me tears
the thought of you moving on to bigger and better things
is rewarding, happy and sad at the same time.
You bring me reward.
What we share helps me know
I made the right choice.
