BANGLADESH TURN THE SCREWS ON DAY TWO

After having the better of the opening day, Bangladesh have turned the screws on Australia on day two of the first Test in Dhaka.

The tourists resumed on 3/18 in reply to Bangladesh’s 260, and they suffered an early blow when Steve Smith (8) was bowled charging down the pitch by Mehidy Hasan Miraz.

Matthew Wade (5) lasted just nine balls, while Glenn Maxwell’s (23) departure had the visitors staring down the barrel of a 100-run plus first-innings deficit.

But excellent rearguard showings from the recalled Ashton Agar (41 not out) and Pat Cummins (25) – with both facing more than 90 deliveries – rectified the situation somewhat during the second session, before veteran left-arm spinner Shakib Al Hasan mopped up the tail to finish with 5/68 off 25.5 overs.
