DeMarcus Ware calling it a career after 12 seasons
DE/OLB DeMarcus Ware is retiring from the NFL after 12 seasons of terrorizing quarterbacks. Ware was a four-time First Team All-Pro performer and made nine Pro Bowls. The former Troy standout played his first nine seasons with the Dallas Cowboys before joining the Denver Broncos in 2014 where he played his final three years. In 2015-16 Ware was part of one of the most dominant defenses in NFL history as he and Von Miller combined to be the NFL’s best duo of pass rushers and the Broncos rode their defense to an upset victory over the Carolina Panthers in Super Bowl 50. 2008 was Ware’s most prolific season when he notched 20 sacks and 6 forced fumbles. His 138.5 sacks rank 8th all-time behind the likes of Bruce Smith, Reggie White, Kevin Greene, Chris Doleman, Julius Peppers (active), Michael Strahan, and Jason Taylor.

In addition to Ware’s on-field production he was viewed as a consummate professional and a glue-guy in the locker room. Ware made such an impression on his Bronco teammates in his first season in the Mile High City that he was named a team captain. Von Miller attributes much of his success to Ware’s mentorship and once Ware arrived in Denver, Miller became a more dominant player on a far more consistent basis.
