Offense
In order for the Miami Heat to beat the Charlotte Hornets, they need to run a similar offense like they ran when LeBron James was on the team. Where Goran Dragic would have the paint relatively empty so that he is able to put pressure on the defense to make a decision on whether they will double-team him or not. If the defense double teams Goran Dragic will most likely pass it to Wade who is cutting to the basket or the perimeter for an open shot. If they do not he will shoot a jumper or drive depending on whether the defense sags off or plays close to him.
Defense
In order for the Heat to reduce the effectiveness of the Hornets offense, they must constantly rotate towards the player who is moving without the ball to prevent passes that require timing from happening thus forcing them to take an awkward shot or resetting.
Keys To Victory For The Charlotte Hornets
Offense
The Charlotte Hornets offensive system mainly consists of three sequences and/or sets which includes 1. a perimeter player typically brings the ball up the floor until he gets up to the three point line, then he calls for a screen. Once the screen is set, he goes over the top of it and if there is no defender on the other side of the screen he will drive to the basket. The player will try to score if he sees a wide open path towards the basket, otherwise, he will pass it to the perimeter to try to get a three point shot for the team. 2. Once again a perimeter player typically brings the ball up the floor until he gets up to the three point line, then he holds the ball until a player who is standing in the low post area starts running to the side of the free throw line when the player gets to the spot the ball is given to him. Then the player will try to score if he sees a wide open path towards the basket, otherwise, he will pass it to the player next to him and that player holds the ball until the player standing in the corner starts cutting to the basket where the ball is passed and the shot is taken. 3. A big man standing in the low post receives the ball and holds it until the player standing behind the three point in starts cutting to the basket where the ball is passed and the shot is taken.
Defense
In order for the Hornets to reduce the effectiveness of the Heat offense, they must double team Dragic at the three-point line so he is forced to pass the ball to Dwyane Wade or any other perimeter player so they are forced to create their own shot as well as facilitate for the rest of the team while Dragic is forced to become a three point shooter. As a result of this, the Heat would be forced into taking all of mid-range jump shots because they don’t have the speed to constantly get by their defender and when they decide to attack the basket they either take a contested shot or pass it back out.
