Mariners Daily 2/25

Rejoice baseball fans, the baseball season is finally here!

With that being said, this is a big season for the Mariners as it's most likely a playoffs or bust type of year. Seattle starts this season with high expectations after finishing just a couple games shy of the postseason last season, and with the moves Jerry Dipoto pulled in the off season, things are looking even better. Dipoto was the busiest GM during the off season, trading Walker for Segura and Haniger, trading for Dyson, Smyley and Gallardo as well as other bullpen pieces. All in all Dipoto has added Speed, defense, filled the need for starting pitching and brought in multiple players to fill the bullpen, all while keeping the core players and key young players.

Now let's get to the game. The Mariners picked up right where they left off last season, hitting homeruns. After Segura got his first hit in a Mariners uniform, Cruz got the Mariners on the board in the 1st inning with a 3-run homerun. Later in the 4th, the Padres would tie up the game 3-3, but the Mariners offense wasn't done. The M's went on to score 1 run in the 5th, 4 in the 6th, 3 in the 7th, 2 in the 9th and pounded out 17 hits en route to a 13-3 win to start the season. Ariel Miranda started the game for the M's, pitching 2 scoreless innings allowing just 1 hit and striking out 1. The Mariners used 6 different pitchers throughout the game and only Ryan Weber allowed any runs and more than 1 hit.

Overall not a bad way to start the 2017 campaign. Tomorrows game is against the Padres at 12:10 PM PT in Peoria.
