Mariners Daily 3/1

Another day, and another win for the Mariners who moved to 4-1 this spring with a win over the Cleveland Indians, 7-4. Drew Smyly made his Mariners debut and looked solid, going 2 innings of work allowing no hits or runs and only 1 walk to go along with 2 strikeouts. After him, fireballers Edwin Diaz and Thyago Vieira both pitched extremely well. Diaz and Vieira both worked 1 inning and each allowed just 1 hit and each struck out 1 batter without allowing any walks or runs. Casey Fien came into the 9th and pitched a great 9th inning to grab the save for the M's. Fien pitched a scoreless 9th allowing just 1 hit and striking out 2 batters.

Offensively it was the outfielders who performed extremely well today. Martin was 3-4 with a RBI, Ramsey who replaced Martin was 1-2 with a RBI and a run scored, Ben Gamel was 1-1 with a walk, Tyler O'Neill was 2-3 with a RBI and a run scored, Boog Powell was 2-3 with a RBI and a run scored and Guillermo Heredia continued his hot spring going 1-2 with a RBI, a run scored and is currently batting .545 and has appeared in all 5 games. Mike Zunino and Robinson Cano also had pretty good games, both went 1-2 with a walk.

Even though the Mariners got the easy 3 run win, it could have been a lot more considering the Mariners had 21 RISP and went only 6-21 with RISP and had 12 men LOB.

Tomorrows game will be against the Milwaukee Brewers back at home in Peoria Stadium at 12:10 PM PT. Ariel Miranda will make his second start this spring and will be opposed by the Brewers' Matt Garza. Miranda was outstanding in his first start so fans and the M's hope he can duplicate that performance. Once again there will be no TV coverage of the game but as always you can listen to it live on 710 ESPN Seattle Radio or MLB.com.
