UCF Fires Donnie Jones

Let's give Danny White a medal. A medal for having the courage and intelligence to do what Todd Stansbury was too scared to do. UCF fans had been told that White was aggressive and willing to do whatever it took to win. Well tonight, he proved that again. Tonight is his crowning achievement and shows that he will not follow the mold of lame duck Athletic Director Todd Stansbury. Danny White has rid UCF of what has been plaguing it for 6 years: a terrible, not creative basketball coach.

Finally Donnie Jones has been fired. Maybe it was the terrible loss to Tulane in the AAC Tournament first round. Maybe it was the 10 blowout losses, maybe it was the 9 losses in the past 11 games. Perhaps Danny White was sick of the excuses that Donnie had made. Before the tournament even started Donnie Jones tried to blame his failings on "the trials of progress". Oh so finishing 8th in the conference and with a 3rd straight losing season is progress? No it is not. Having fans not show up is not progress, having sources leak that you are complaining before the season started is not progress. Donnie Jones had a 79-87 record in his tenure and 34-61 in conference USA and AAC combined.

Now allow me to take a moment to say something: recently I was told that I should be ashamed of my vitriolic blogs about Jones. That he was a good man a and that I was being way too harsh on him. That it isn't a good look for UCF fans. I only have one retort to this: why the hell not? Why is it my job to be nice? I am not a journalist, this isn't my job. This is a hobby I have that I enjoy doing. I see something and I blog about it. Donnie upset me because he killed basketball at UCF. It was Donnie that got this team put on sanctions and his poor ability as a head coach killed the culture surrounding the team. Anyone with eyes could see that. So why the hell shouldn't i have been critical. Why shouldn't I go after a man that harming my alma mater? Donnie put himself in the public eye and opened himself up for criticism. If he did not want such criticism then he should have done better.
Oh by the way the blog that is too critical was the first one to report that Donnie Jones would be fired weeks ago. So we must be doing something right. And for those that questioned the legitimacy of this blog and Victoryway, how you doing?
So who are the front runners for the UCF job? Well it's clearly Martin Ingelsby(who is my choice and I have written about extensively), NDSU basketball coach Dave Richman, Stephen F Austin coach Brad Underwood and  Stony Brook coach Steve Pikiell. Who it is will be an upgrade from Jones. UCF now turns the page for a bright future.
