Boston Bruin Fan's Expectations for 2016-2017 Season

The Boston Bruins have been a fairly good team over the last ten years.  They won one Stanley Cup in 2011 and went to another in 2013.  The last couple of seasons have not been good, however, and all too often Bruins fans have been left looking like this.

Boston has missed the playoffs each of the last two seasons much to the dismay of their fans.  Expectations are usually high for the Bruins, but failing to make the playoffs two years in a row could bring the expectations down.  The Bruins did make some important changes during the offseason though, most importantly signing David Backes.

As a Bruins fan I have pretty high expectations for the team this year.  I expect the team to make the playoffs.  They have a shaky defense core, but their forward group is top ten in the league and they have a $7 million goalie.  No more excuses for this team, they need to make the playoffs.

I asked a few other Bruins fans I know what their expectations were for this season.  Here is what some fans expect from the team this year.  Expectations were mixed, but overall the fans seem pretty optimistic this year.

The first person I asked was Matt McGuirk from MM Sports Talk.  Matt said, "I think the Bruins are going to be a bubble team all season.  I think they'll introduce the young guys more and more as the season goes on.  I don't think they are good enough to make the playoffs."

Matt's brother Jack had a different take on the team.  He said, "I expect them to have a better year than last year.  There's much more depth and skill within their roster, as long as they are healthy.  They're depth of goal scorers is insane.  The young defensemen that are playing should keep them steady on the back end.  I expect that they should make the playoffs in the 3rd spot in the division.  If anything they have the talent to beat out any other team who finds themselves in the wild card spot."

Another fan, Kayla Fontaine said, "Honestly I think that their wins and losses will be pretty equal throughout the season, but I think they will make it to the playoffs."

Lastly, Jill Pellegrini said, "I think they have a lot of new players that have potential to make them have a successful year, and I do believe that they will make the playoffs."

Overall it seems like the fans are optimistic this year.  Most of them think the Bruins will be a playoff team.  Matt is the only one down on the team, but maybe he's just being realistic.  Anyway, that is how a few fans think the Bruins will do this season.
