Bruins Power Play Bursts to Life in Thrashing of Sabres

The Boston Bruins have been right around .500 all season long.  One of the big things holding the Bruins back has been their power play.  Up until last night, the Bruin's power play was 3/38 on the season.  That was good for 29th in the league and an atrocious 8%.

The power play finally woke up last night, and led the Bruins to a 4-0 shutout of the Buffalo Sabres.  The Bruins scored 3 power play goals on 8 chances, doubling their power play output on the year.  This is extremely important for the Bruins.  Boston is looking to rebound after missing the playoffs each of the last two seasons.  The Bruins are expected to make the playoffs this year, but a .500 record is not going to get them there.  Boston sits at 7-5 right now, and will need win at a higher rate to make the playoffs.  An improved power play will certainly help them reach that goal.

Two Struggling players, David Krejci and Matt Beleskey, also stepped up for the Bruins.  Krejci scored his first goal of the season, while Beleskey notched his first goal and assist of the year.  He also picked up his first fighting major of the season.  Both of these players are vitally important to the Bruins and getting them involved is crucial.  I know it was just one game, but getting the power play going, and getting production from Krejci and Beleskey are both massive steps in the right direction.  If the Bruins can build on last night's win, they certainly have a chance to pick up a lot of wins this season.
