Good Work, See You In Two Weeks
Rodgers: 6/9, 60 yards, 1 TD. Randall Cobb: 3 receptions, 30 yards, 1 TD (likely from Aaron). Eddie Lacy: 7 rushes, 45 yards with a long of 21 (making the rest average out to 4 yards a carry). Jared Cook had a big day as well. The defense looked good, but San Francisco should have one of the worst offenses ever.
The second unit was impressive as well. QB Joe Callahan is really making it hard for the Packers to cut him, S Marwin Evans got his first interception, DE Christian Ringo got a sack again, and OLB Lerentee McCray and Kyler Fackrell just destroyed San Francisco's line in the third quarter (that's actually the only play that I saw live). WR Geronimo Allison and Jared Abbrederis were big too, and RB Brandon Burks has cleared away from RB Brandon Ross in the running back battle of roster hopefuls.
So what can we take away from this "dress rehearsal" game? For one, Rodgers' is ready to go despite not playing the first two games, so he should sit at Kansas City on Thursday. So should the rest of the Eddie Lacy's, Clay Matthews', even the Ha-Ha Clinton Dix's. Take out the starting line except JC Tretter, Randall Cobb, and all the defensive players who are locked into a starting role. Here's what I hope the lineup will be next week:
Offense: QB-Brett Hundley, RB-James Starks, WR-Jared Abbrederis, Ty Montgomery, Davante Adams, TE-Jared Cook, OL-Jason Spriggs, Lane Taylor, Tretter, Kyle Murphy, Josh Walker
Defense: DL-Dean Lowry, Kenny Clark, Mike Pennel, OLB-Nick Perry, Datone Jones, ILB-Blake Martinez, Jake Ryan (if healthy enough), CB-Damarious Randall, Quinten Rollins, S-Micah Hyde, Chris Banjo
Obviously, guys like Randall, Rollins, Hyde, Starks and Tretter shouldn't play too long, but get them another series or two to make sure they have everything down. Everything from this point forward should be surviving the preseason without catastrophic injury, and letting Jacksonville know week 1 that they "ain't with the big boys yet" with defeating them.
