Wisconsin Sports Update

After quite a few small stories popped up around the state of Wisconsin yesterday, I've decided to put them all together in one article.  I will be summarizing the Packers' second preseason game, Brent Suter's first major league start, and what effect Jason Terry will have on the Bucks.

To start, the Packers' second preseason game was yesterday, and they won with a final score of 20-12.  Just like everyone who owns DirecTV in the Madison area, the Packer game "lost service" due to the thunderstorm about midway through the third quarter, which is all of the game I saw.  But, what I did see from the Packers, especially the defense, was very good.  They did not record a sack in the game, but less than 50 total rushing yards and two interceptions really should state the obvious.  Plus, that last touchdown was from a punt block recovery, not an offensive touchdown.  CB Damarious Randall had a spectacular interception, and ILB Blake Martinez seemed to be all over the field.  QB Brett Hundley was the only player of significance to get injured, but it's better to be him than Aaron Rodgers.  Maybe the Packers might need to look into signing a veteran quarterback, because I'm not comfortable having Joe Callahan be the backup to Rodgers.

Offensively, they had their moments, but overall they were pretty mediocre outside of the first drive (but that's also the only drive the entire first team played).  WR Davante Adams made a few nice grabs, RB Eddie Lacy carried the team through the first drive, and WR Ty Montgomery had one hell of a catch.  Special teams wasn't awful either, Trevor Davis had a few nice returns and P Peter Mortell seemed to put a bit of distance between him and the incumbent Tim Masthay for the roster spot.

Switching gears to Brewers' baseball now, another new pitcher has been called up to get potentially more than just a spot start today in Seattle.  Brent Suter, a LHP drafted in the 31st round from Harvard, had some pretty good numbers in Colorado Springs considering how awful it is to pitch there.  It would be great if he were the next Junior Guerra, but at this point any signs of ability to stick it out in the big leagues is enough.  The Brewers' season is essentially over, and it is time for the team to start throwing out guys like Suter and bringing up more from the minors as well.  Suter has been the most successful starting pitcher in Colorado Springs this season for the Brewers, despite having Top 100 prospect Josh Hader (who may not be ready yet) and former Top 100 prospect Jorge Lopez.  Suter has a similar style to that of Zach Davies: low velocity, few strikeouts, but a lot of ground balls and few home runs.  It's why he had success in Colorado, and the 26 year old now gets a chance to shine in Seattle tonight (and, for his sake, good thing it's not tomorrow when Felix Hernandez takes the mound).

Jason Terry just signed with the Bucks

The finally short post I will be doing is on the rumor that the Bucks have just signed Jason Terry, a veteran guard who has played for numerous teams in his NBA career.  Terry has always been known for his scoring and 3 point shooting ability, but at this point it might just be his veteran leadership that the Bucks are targeting.  Terry started off playing in Atlanta, but his years in Dallas including an NBA Championship in 2011 (with Bucks coach Jason Kidd on the team) and a Western Conference Championship in 2006 were his most memorable seasons.  In 2013, he went to Boston on a three year deal, but quickly was moved to Brooklyn the summer after in the Garnett-Pierce blockbuster.  He end up signing with Houston in the summer of 2014, and has been a backup point guard there since.

Terry provides depth at the guard position, as the point guard position seems to be the weak link on the Bucks, despite the signing of Matthew Dellavedova.  The Bucks also have the (already) declining Michael Carter-Williams, who went from Rookie of the Year a few years ago to benchwarmer last season, and the little used Tyler Ennis.  Terry is also a perfect candidate to play off the ball next to Giannis Antetokounmpo when he is playing point forward.  He also has the veteran leadership that this team has sorely missed since losing Jared Dudley and Zaza Pachulia the summer prior.  On why Terry wanted to join the Bucks, Terry said "They are a young team on the cusp of doing great things and the Bucks have a great coach in Jason Kidd."

And, here is the link of Terry essentially ending the Kobe Bryant era in Los Angeles.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mS7ax0Nmtic
