Flames Win 10th in a Row

The Calgary Flames had a chance to make NHL history on Monday Night and they did. With a 4 to 3 victory over the Pittsburgh Penguins in the shootout, the Flames are the fourth team in the NHL this season to have 10 plus game winning streaks.

It is the first time in NHL history that has happened. The other three teams to have 10 plus winning streaks this season are the Columbus Blue Jackets (16), Minnesota Wild (12), and Philadelphia Flyers (10).

Calgary is now in second momentarily in the Pacific Division. Pittsburgh is now tied with Washington for the most points in the eastern conference.

Conor Sheary scored for Pittsburgh early in the game. Deryk Engelland tied the game at 1 for Calgary. Evgeni Malkin scored a power-play goal for Pittsburgh later in the period.

Dennis Wideman scored the only goal for the Flames in the second period. Johnny Gaudreau scored a power-play goal for the Flames in the third. Sidney Crosby tied the game at 3 with 3:31 remaining in regulation. Calgary challenged for possible goalie interference but failed.

Both teams had quality chances in overtime, but failed to convert. Kris Versteeg scored the only goal in the shootout for Calgary. Marc-Andre Fleury made 27 saves for the Penguins. Brian Elliott made 32 saves for the Flames. Calgary won the season series 2-0.
