John Tavares Should Bolt

NHL: New York Islanders at Pittsburgh Penguins

After being a playoff hero last year in the first round for the New York Islanders, John Tavares expected more of them this season. The Islanders got their butts whooped last night to the Philadelphia Flyers 6 to 3 last night.

This makes you wonder, has Tavares given up on this season and this franchise? New York's record is 35-29-12 with 82 points this season. They are six points back of the Boston Bruins for the final playoff spot.

The odds are slim the Islanders make it. Instead of taking a step forward this season, they took a step back. Management has been a joke this season. Tavares had to deal with a coaching change. For quite a while it seemed like he was playing hard, but it quickly evaporated.

He has 28 goals and 37 assists this season, with a plus/minus of four. His contract is up at the end of next season. Does he decide to sign a new contract with the team not knowing where this franchise will be playing after the 2018-2019 season or does he go to more a stable organization?

If I were Tavares, I would get out of that circus act and demand a trade this summer or wait one more year and deal with it and go somewhere else.

I would love to see Pittsburgh go after him if he decides to leave, but the realistic teams would be Toronto or Montreal. Tavares also needs to realize if he wants to win a championship and I am sure he does, he needs to leave.

Also, the Islanders will basically have nothing left from a fan standpoint because he means everything to this franchise.
