A Move the Yankees Must Make

The New York Yankees should move Gary Sanchez to first base full-time. Why? There are two reasons that Sanchez should abandon his realm behind the plate.

The first is that the Yankees need a catcher that, you know, can catch. Sanchez has been a liability behind the plate ever since arriving in the big leagues. This season the Yankees catcher was atop the MLB leaderboard in passed balls with sixteen and to be honest, it seemed like he had at least twice that amount. Gary Sanchez is extremely shaky behind the plate and the Yankees cannot afford to have such ineptitude at such a crucial position for the next decade.

The second reason is to preserve the health of one of baseball’s bright young stars. It is no secret that catching takes toll physically on players. Why would the Yankees put arguably their best hitter in combat each and every game when a) he is not even average defensively and b) it increases the likelihood that he gets injured and/or cannot play well into his thirties as most players do.

To me, this is a no-brainer. The Yankees would keep his bat in the lineup, get a better defensive catcher in the game, and preserve the long-term health of one of their most valuable assets.
