AP to New Orleans

Adrian Peterson has agreed to a 2 year/$7 million deal with the New Orleans Saints. This signing seems great on paper, but don't be fooled. Peterson is 32 years old and has played in just twenty games over the past three seasons. He will be joining a backfield in New Orleans that is already occupied by Mark Ingram, who like Peterson, is more of a bulldozer-type back than a make-you-miss runner. I think Peterson is too vanilla for New Orleans and Sean Payton's offense. Christian McCaffrey, at pick number 11, would have made some sense for the Saints. He would have given Drew Brees a reliable receiving threat coming out of the backfield. Instead, the Saints decided to go with Peterson. While it is a team friendly deal, Peterson just doesn't diversify the Saints offense enough for my liking. Sure, it will be must see TV when the Saints visit the Viking Week 1 on Monday Night Football, but Peterson is far past his prime, and to think he will alter the balance of power in the NFC is foolish.
