Are the Warriors Better Without KD?

A lot has been made of the Warriors success this season without Kevin Durant in the lineup. They're 15-5 without their scoring machine. But to question whether or not Golden State is better off without one of the top three players in the world is laughable.

The Warriors are not better off without Kevin Durant. Any team would want a player with his transcendent talent. What differentiates the Warriors is that Durant is not a necessary ingredient to winning. Instead he is a luxury. Think of him as a fine red wine. It certainly enhances the meal, but many exquisite meals have been had without. With just a core of Draymond, Klay, and Steph, Golden State would still likely be the favorites to win the NBA title. KD just gives them another option. Another weapon.

The question shouldn't be if the Warriors are better off without Kevin Durant, rather it should be: do they need him? The answer to the former is no, but the obvious response to latter is unquestionably, yes.
