Crazy NHL Comeback

I am hard-pressed to find a more suspenseful atmosphere in all of sports than what overtime in the NHL Playoffs provides. Last night, in Game 5 between the Edmonton Oilers and the Anaheim Ducks, we were treated to double overtime, and the manner in which we arrived there was unbelievable.

With 3:30 remaining in the third period, the Ducks trailed the Oilers 3-0. The Ducks were immeasurably desperate - as they pulled their goalie. Then they struck, Ryan Getzlaf scored to cut the Oilers lead to just two goals. Then, 35 seconds later Cam Fowler netted another one for the Ducks and they now trailed just 3-2. With their goalie still pulled, playing 6-on-5, the Ducks were relentless. They had the Blues on their heels. That's when it happened. With 15 seconds remaining in the 3rd period of Game 5, in a series tied at two-a-piece, Rickard Rakell tied the game for the Ducks in one of the most improbable comebacks in the history of the NHL postseason. They had trailed by 3 goals with just over 3 minutes remaining, only to send the game into overtime.

The Ducks went on to win 4-3 in double overtime, to take a commanding 3-2 series lead over the Blues. Game 6 will be Sunday in Edmonton. Yet again, the NHL Playoffs show us whose boss.
