Is Phillip Rivers a Hall of Famer? Please!

I heard Dan Patrick say that Phillip Rivers is a "borderline Hall-of-Famer". I cannot disagree more with this sentiment. If he gets into the Hall, we are rewarding mediocrity. Yes, he has been consistently average for the past 11 seasons (he sat behind Drew Brees for his first 2 years in the NFL), but the Hall of Fame is not for consistency, it's for excellence. Rivers has only made the playoffs five times over the course of his 13-year career, and hasn't had much success in those few instances. He has been a fine, reliable starting quarterback. He also happens to be from the same draft class as Eli and Big Ben, but he doesn't have two Super Bowl victories to his name as each of his peers do. In fact, he does not even have a Super Bowl appearance. Let me be clear: rings don't define players, but they certainly don't hurt especially when your numbers aren't off the charts, as is the case with Rivers. Would I want Phillip Rivers as my team's quarterback? It depends, but I would side towards saying yes. Does that make him a Hall of Famer? No. And if he somehow manages to sneak in, the Hall of Fame will be greatly diluted.
