Pump the Brakes

Sam Darnold this, Sam Darnold that. The USC signal-caller has been lauded and praised non-stop since he shredded Penn State in the Rose Bowl. Many "experts" feel as though Darnold has the talent to taste tremendous success at the next level. While he is certainly talented, I think it is a bit much to project him as the next Ben Roethlisberger, especially considering Darnold was not even USC's starting quarterback a year ago.

Its undeniable: Sam Darnold lit the college football world on fire last year and led the Trojans to heights that they haven't reached since the Matt Leinart days. You're probably wondering what ever happened to Matt Leinart. That's exactly my point. Like Darnold, Leinart had fans across the country mesmerized by his touch, precision, and accuracy. But then he flamed out. I am not projecting the same fate for Darnold, but to suggest that the Jets, or any other team, should just throw in the towel this season for Darnold is crazy talk. We don't even know if he is the best quarterback in LA (see Josh Rosen over at UCLA). While everyone seems so quick to label Darnold as the top quarterback in this class, I am a bit hesitant to pull the trigger.
