Twitter Trolls Force Olympique Lyonnais To Announce That Mathieu Valbuena is Still Alive

Oh, who doesn't love a twitter troll. French Ligue 1 side Olympique Lyonnais had to do a rather...interesting announcement yesterday. Midfielder Mathieu Valbuena did not make the squad against Toulouse FC due to injury, but some fans thought otherwise. Valbuena does not have a twitter and was last active October 23rd on Instagram(as luck would have it, he did post a picture yesterday, but the twitter trolls got the rumor swirling before he posted it), so his lack of social media activity got some trolls working up a rumor. A simple post saying "Mathieu Valbuena has died at home, may he rest in peace" with a picture of Valbuena in an Olympique Marseilles kit(cmon trolls, at least get the team right?) set the world on fire. So much so that the team had to make an official statement on its twitter feed.

It reads "Mathieu Valbuena is happily alive and well contrary to what those despicable individuals are spreading on Twitter," and "Lyon are horrified at such disgraceful and inhuman acts." Couple things I wanna point out here, @OL is a baller twitter handle, the club must have really jumped onto twitter early to secure a two letter handle. While Olympique Lyonnais might not find this funny, I bet Valbuena probably is recovering from his injury rolling around laughing. Like c'mon! A couple fat dude that live in their mom's basement, eating Cheetos and watching soccer all day, got a professional soccer club to make a public announcement on a rumor that they started. Congrats to them, now go back to playing fifa 17.
