MLS Aces Week 14 Team of the Week

GK: Matt Turner, New England Revolution

2x MLS Aces Team of the Week

The week 14 keeper that impressed the most was New England’s Matt Turner. He won the job from Cody Cropper, and now he is dominating teams in net. Turner had to face the likes of Atlanta United and New York Red Bulls this week and he only allowed a total of two goals! When you face two of the top teams in the east you are going to be tested, he was up to the challenge as he recorded nine save in total and secured four points for the Revs.

DEF: Anton Tinnerholm, New York City FC

3x MLS Aces Team of the Week

Anton Tinnerholm has been a surprise this season… and at the same time he really shouldn’t have been. He is coming off of a 2017 season where he was the Allsvenken Defender of the Year and thrown into a talented NYCFC roster. Tinnerholm was once again great in week 14 as he and the NYCFC defense shutout Orlando City 3-0. In the process, Tinnerholm was also able to record an assist in this game on a goal scored by Ishmael Tajouri-Shradi.

DEF: Ryan Hollingshead, FC Dallas

1x MLS Aces Team of the Week

What a week it was for Ryan Hollingshead who we are naming the MLS Aces Player of the Week! Hollingshead was able to factor in on both offense and defense as he was key to FC Dallas picking up a ton of points this week. Hollingshead was part of a defense that allowed three goals in two games, not FANTASTIC number but also not numbers that puts his team in a spot to lose. In order to win however, he had to push up down the wing and into the attack… and that is what he did. He was able to put together an offensive box score of one goal and two assists in two games to lead FC Dallas this week.

DEF: Matt Besler, Sporting Kansas City

1x MLS Aces Team of the Week

This next defense didn’t have the offensive impact of Hollingshead but he had the defensive impact to sure a win in the Western Conference. Besler started at center-back against Minnesota and SKC was able to pull off a dominating win by only allowing one goal to the Loons. Besler locked down the middle of the field and allowed for little to no action there. A great game from the veteran leader is a reason why SKC got the win, and why they are a top team in the West.

DEF: Jose Aja, Vancouver Whitecaps

1x MLS Aces Team of the Week

Another Western Conference center-back had a great week has Vancouver faced Colorado. Aja has been filling in for Waston as the top central defender and this week he was fantastic. Colorado was only able to score one on Vancouver due to the Whitecaps swarming defense and strong central play. Aja was easily the best defender on the field and was a leader to secure three points at home against a weaker Western Conference opponent.

MID: Maxi Moralez, New York City FC

5x MLS Aces Team of the Week

Moralez is quietly having a fantastic season for NYCFC and this game was no different. Maxi was the leader out on the field for New York as he was scoring and facilitating in this one. Maxi was able to score one goal as well as assist on a Tajouri-Shradi goal in NYCFC’s 3-0 victory over Orlando City. A big game from the little man!

MID: Borek Dockal, Philadelphia Union

3x MLS Aces Team of the Week

This guy’s name keeps popping up on Union boxscores. His name should be because he is a DP attacking midfielder for them and this week showed his DP ability. Dockal was able to help the Union win one of their two games. In total for week 14 the European veteran scored one goal and recorded two assists in two games for the Union. If the Union can continuously get production from Dockal, they might just have a shot at the playoffs in 2018.

MID: Mauro Diaz, FC Dallas

3x MLS Aces Team of the Week

The Unicorn was magical in week 14. His ability to drop dimes to his teammates is absolutely stunning. FC Dallas had a great week points wise, and in getting those points offensive production all started with Diaz’s play. Mauro had two assists in week 14 coming off some well-timed and well played balls to set up his teammates to succeed. He is easily one of my favorite players to watch and the original Miguel Almiron of this league.

MID: Ishmael Tajouri-Shradi, New York City FC

3x MLS Aces Team of the Week

My final midfielder/winger is a guy whose goal scoring record in MLS is ridiculous. ITS continuously scores goals when he is in games for the pigeons and as a fan of the blues, IM LOVIN EVERY MINUTE OF IT! Shradi has fantastic speed and the most important quality of any soccer player, the ability to finish. ITS scored two goals this week as NYCFC dominated week 14.

FOR: Teal Bunbury, New England Revolution

3x MLS Aces Team of the Week

Yes, once again Teal Bunbury continues to surprise us MLS fans and make it to team’s of the week and is looking like an all-star forward! This week Bunbury played in two games and was able to record 1 goal and 1 assists against two of the toughest teams in the league. A fantastic week from the Revs forward had put him above most in week 14.

FOR: Josef Martinez, Atlanta United FC

3x MLS Aces Team of the Week

My final player here in week 14 absolutely went the fuck off! Josef Martinez was able to score 4! YES 4 goals in week 14 to give Atlanta 4 points at the end. Martinez had the game tying goal against New England and then was able to score a hat trick in their game against Philadelphia. He is absolutely one of the best forwards to grace this league and should be a treasure to watch week in and week out.
