Seahawks Avril NFC Player of the Month

It’s been an interesting week for the Seattle D-Line. Cliff Avril was named NFC Defensive Player of the Month for October, but Michael Bennett underwent knee surgery and could be out for the next three games. Those three games won’t be easy. Buffalo, New England and Philadelphia represent the Seahawks next three opponents. They are a combined 15-8 this season. Bennett missed last Sunday’s loss against New Orleans, and was replaced by 2015 second-round draft choice Frank Clark.

Avril recorded sacks in each of the four October games, with two in the win over Atlanta, and 2.5 the following week in the overtime tie at Arizona. He’s been with the Seahawks since 2013 after playing five seasons with Detroit. He was a third-round draft choice out of Purdue in 2008. Avril’s parents were born in Haiti, and with each sack he records this season he is paying for a house in the hurricane-decimated country. The houses will cost $6,000 each.

Clark had one sack last week, in his first start, giving him 5.5 on the season. He played at Michigan as a collegian.
