Seahawks Schedule Not So Bad

The Seahawks schedule, which in the preseason looked something like your basic feature film, where it starts out with a small splash, settles down, and then the action slowly increases the rest of the way. The 3-1 record at the time of the bye week seemed predictable enough. But I have to admit, back in August I saw the Atlanta game as just a warm up for the remainder of the schedule, which now doesn’t look as daunting as it once did. Meanwhile, I already see the win over the Falcons as the season’s greatest triumph. But look who we have left. Although New England looks as good as ever, having gone 3-1 during Tom Brady’s absence, Green Bay is lucky to be 4-2, Arizona is 3-3, and Carolina is 1-5. The three teams to beat in the NFC have a losing record collectively. Of course Buffalo, 4-2, is better than expected, and so is Philadelphia. The worst of the schedule begins with a Monday-nighter against the Bills on November 7th, followed by a Sunday-night game at New England, and a home game against the Eagles. Also, a stretch that includes Green Bay, Los Angeles, and Arizona in December will be tough, as well. The start of the season, however, was pretty much as advertised. Of the four teams Seattle faced before the bye week only the Rams, 3-3, have avoided a losing record. And of course that’s the Seahawks only loss. Sunday Seattle returns to Arizona where they haven’t lost since September 2012, not counting the Super Bowl loss to the Patriots at the end of the 2014 season. The Seahawks won six of their last seven in the regular season last year, nine of their last 10 the year before, nine of their last 11 in 2013, and seven of their last eight in 2012. Improving is what they do. And they’ll have to. For a team that used to like to grind it out, Seattle is 29th in the league in rushing yards. Of course their rushing defense is No. 1, but still you don’t want to just cancel out your defense out.
