Old Timer's Day

A few years ago I went to Old Timer's day with my dad and my family. Every year the Yankee's bring a bunch of their ex-players together and trot them out there in a kind of scrimmage before actual game time and I have to say, if you are a Yankee fan and you have the means to do so, you should definitely go it is a great experience. Yankee Stadium holds over 54,000 people and although it was not full for Old Timer's Day start, it definitely did get almost completely full by game start. Due to the added significance of the game, security was extra tight and the crows inside the stadium were an absolute nightmare. Once you get past the gates and into the stadium, there is actually a surprising amount of order to what you would normally expect would be a free for all. Each section has a staff member checking tickets and making sure that everything stays in order. They want you to have fun and enjoy the day but they are also in the interest of making sure that the day goes off without a hitch so each staff member was checking tickets to make sure that each person had tickets for the section they were trying to enter to make sure that no one is stealing anyone else's seats. The process to get into the stadium is a well oiled machine to, they have managed to make what you would expect to be a long process quick and painless with quick moving lines through security and ultimately into the stadium. They have well planned out where their concessions are located to make it easy for spectators to quickly get their food and sit back down and they actually have a surprising amount of variety in their options. However, one thing that they did struggle with was keeping those concession lines down. Yes there was variety and yes there was a lot of options, however, there was such a volume of people that the lines were all easily a 20 minute wait. Unfortunately, due to the high volume lines, this is a bit unavoidable, the only thing that they could do to try and make it faster is to simplify each dining option down to its basics and make a sort of factory line. Each person would have their own role and if you pre-cook as much of the food as possible, you may be able to make the lines go faster. Making these lines go faster would allow for a better experience for all the guests because they would be able to get their food and get back to their seats faster which would allow them to enjoy the actual game better. Other than this one blip the day was awesome, you could tell all the ex-players were loving it and the atmosphere was really fun. I had fun watching all the Old Timers play and my dad and uncles loved reliving the good old days and reminiscing on teams of years past, making this a great day for Yankee fans of all ages.
