Recruiting Profile: J.T. Cauthen

In this week's installment of the Heel Tough Blog’s recruiting profiles, we meet wide receiver J.T. Cauthen from Waxhaw, NC. Cauthen was one of the most successful receivers in Union County history, breaking many receiving records in a county that has seen the likes of Jeremiah Miller, Emeka Emezie, Jody Fuller and Jamison Crowder among others. In his senior season, Cauthen tallied 858 receiving yards and 9 touchdowns on 60 receptions. By far his most successful season, though, came in his sophomore season back in 2014. Cauthen set the single season record for receptions in Union County with 104 and turned that into 1451 yards and 13 touchdowns. Those stats show that with a college quarterback (Austin Kendall), Cauthen can take over.

On tape, Cauthen shows some very encouraging things. His route running is already polished, as he runs good, crisp routes. His hands are extremely reliable and he drops very few passes. Cauthen uses his height to his advantage, as he is able to go up and get the football, even over tight coverage. His speed will sneak up on people, something that is definitely a weapon  he will display to leave defenders behind.

Cauthen was an early enrollee at Carolina, meaning he's already been on campus for almost two months. Cauthen got the advantage of participating in Blue Dawn and will also be in spring camp and have a chance to play in the spring game. With last year's top three receivers all gone, Cauthen will have a chance to make an impact in his freshman season, especially if he performs well in spring camp.
